Why this is urgent
The existing timber floor has reached the end of its serviceable life. Professional advice confirms it can no longer be sanded or refinished because there is insufficient timber thickness. Surface deterioration has reduced traction, while protruding nails and emerging defects require continuing monitoring and maintenance.
Students have slipped during basketball and physical activities. Without renewal, further restrictions or partial closure may be needed, removing a critical indoor space during winter, wet weather and extreme heat.
More than a sports floor
The hall is one of the school's most flexible spaces. It supports physical education, music and drama, whole-school activities, performances and outside-school-hours care. It is also an important local basketball venue in a municipality with strong demand for indoor courts.
Excessive reverberation makes speech difficult to understand and creates a barrier for neurodiverse students and others with sensory sensitivities. Acoustic wall and ceiling treatment would make the hall safer, calmer and more inclusive for learning, performance and community events.
